Abby Norman is a Atlantan teacher and blogger who writes on the intersection of faith and everyday life, focusing on complex sociological issues that impact human  development and how we then observe and interact with the world.

Our theme this year implies the discovery of something that was before unseen. Tell us about a pure unexpected change in your life that was the illumination of a revelation.

I learn so very much from my students. Over and over again I have had the revelation that we are underselling the ability of teens in this country. They could change the world if we let them. Their ideas are brilliant, and they care about important things.

At the end of the day, what is it about your work that keeps you going?

It sounds totally cliché, but I love my students, and I love watching them learn. We talk about heavy things in my classroom, power structures, inequality, how our history informs our future. My students go there with me and come out understanding themselves and our world much better.

What keeps you centered in this crazy world?

My family. I have an incredibly supportive husband and two little girls who remind me that I am always enough. My faith, as a Jesus lover I know that in Him I am enough, that God made me beautifully and wonderfully and that I am enough for this world and His purpose. And when all else fails I go outside and look at the sky. There is enough room under it for all of me.

Which talent would you most like to have?

As a blogger, and a 21st century teacher I am embarrassingly bad at all things technology. I would LOVE to be a tech wizard!

What is your motto?

Do it anyway. There is always a reason not to do something, you haven’t perfected it, people will laugh, no one will see it, it is too hard. Do it. Do it anyway.
