Anneliese A. Singh is an associate professor in the University of Georgia’s department of counseling and human development services. She has contributed to many counseling and psychological practice guidelines and competencies, such as the American Counseling Association (ACA) Multicultural and Social Justice Competencies, and the American Psychological Association’s Transgender Guidelines and its Prevention Science Guidelines.

Singh is a Sikh American and passionately believes in and strives to live by Martin Luther King’s vision of the beloved community, as well as by Audre Lorde’s quote: “Without community, there is no liberation.” She founded the Trans Resilience Project to translate findings from her decade-long research on the resilience that transgender people develop to resist and counter societal oppression. She also co-founded the Georgia Safe Schools Coalition to address intersections of heterosexism, racism, sexism, and other oppressions, creating safe school environments. She has been honored with over 11 national awards for her work in social justice organizing and community-building.

Singh is highly prolific, having published in over 100 publications in the areas of LGBTQQ and social justice counseling. She is also co-author of the book “Affirmative Counseling and Psychological Practice with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Clients.” She actively works to be a better ally to transgender people and to develop empowering spaces for people of color who have survived sexual abuse. Singh gave a TEDx Talk titled “Trans Liberation is for Everybody” at TEDxGeorgiaStateU.
