chrismheadshot TEDxChris McCord serves as the Director of Men in Motion, a dance group comprised of 8-13 year old boys within Moving in the Spirit, a non-profit youth development program that uses dance as a vehicle to transform the lives of children living in Atlanta urban communities. The Men in Motion program is designed to provide a safe place in which young men can learn values, build confidence, and participate in healthy activities.

Growing up in the Moving in the Spirit program himself, Chris returned to the program as an instructor of Stepping Stones after graduating from Georgia State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and serving on the DeKalb County Police Force.  After becoming a full time employee of Moving in the Spirit, Chris founded the Men in Motion program and Summer Camp.  As a valued past participant, Chris received the first Alumni Award given in 2007, celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the organization. In addition, Chris has personally performed for the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Studio Dion, Abundant Life Church, and with choreographer Nicole Liviertos. In September of this year, Chris was a guest presenter in the Dance Program at the University of Georgia in Athens.

With his diverse background, Chris has achieved success outside of dance, including receiving Georgia Peace Officer Certification, graduating from the Devos Urban Leadership Initiative, and recognized in 2005 as an Unsung Hero by the Atlanta WB affiliate. Chris is an active member and leader in the South Atlanta community and serves as the Treasurer of the South Atlanta Community Association while also leading their Tire Clean-up project to maintain the integrity of the environment of the area. In addition, Chris volunteers his personal time with Charis Community Housing, Adopt-a-Grandparent, Atlanta’s Special Citizens, and most recently traveled to the Township of Soweto in South Africa to work with young children. Chris’ story has been featured in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
