Dr. Jordan Amadio is a senior resident physician in the Department of Neurosurgery at Emory University and co-founder of NeuroLaunch, the world’s first neuroscience startup company accelerator.

Dr. Amadio is a graduate of Princeton University, where he received an honors degree in Physics and was a Barry Goldwater Scholar. In 2004, he was the recipient of both the Kusaka Memorial Prize in Physics as well as the Taylor Prize in Physics. He earned his M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School, where he was a research fellow in neurogenetics and was selected to complete his training in the Health Sciences and Technology (HST) program co-administered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was among the first cohort of physicians to graduate with a concurrent Master’s in Business Administration (with Distinction) from Harvard Business School.

Dr. Amadio’s professional experience includes leadership in the areas of neurosurgery, bioethics, medical education, bioengineering innovation, and health entrepreneurship. His peer-reviewed scientific publications include research on electrolyte disturbances after pituitary surgery, socioeconomic dimensions of neuromodulation, and the role of guidelines in promoting surgical quality. His popular writing and expert commentary has been featured by media outlets such as The Associated PressThe IndependentNatural HistoryCell, Nature Publishing Group, VICE, the BBC, and various blogs. In the world of medical publishing, he serves as Editorial Fellow at NEUROSURGERY, a leading global academic journal, and has been a strong advocate of interdisciplinary collaboration. In 2014, he led the creation of the first theme issue of the American Medical Association (AMA) Journal of Ethics devoted to neurosurgery. In 2015, he became one of the delegates drafting the global BEINGS consensus declaration on responsible use of biotechnology for the next century.

In 2014, Dr. Amadio received the American Medical Association Foundation’s Excellence in Medicine Award recognizing his leadership in the early-stage medical innovation community. He has been named “40 under 40” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle as well as “40 under 40 Healthcare Innovators” by MedTechBoston. He serves on the board of several nonprofit organizations, including the National Monuments Foundation and the SXSW Accelerator.  His current research interests lie at the interface of emerging technologies and the human nervous system, including neuromodulation, wearable computing, and applying startup principles to neuroscience innovations. In its inaugural year, his work with NeuroLaunch has resulted in 11 accelerated neuro-startups, the expansion of the program to 3 cities, and over $10 million in new value creation.

He resides in downtown Atlanta, where he has been an active supporter of urban renewal and neighborhood art programs.
