Shannon Zirbel is a doctoral student studying mechanical engineering at Brigham Young University. Her doctoral research has focused on applying compliant mechanism theory to space technology with the objective of creating lightweight, low friction mechanical solutions that enable greater advances in space exploration. In addition to her doctoral work, Shannon is a NASA Space Technology Research Fellow and a member of BYU’s Compliant Mechanisms Research Group. Her childhood dream was to be the first woman on the moon.
